For printing, a print-ready PDF file is generally preferred. Having the source file can help if there are problems, but having the source file also means having all the fonts and linked files included as well. Often, if a client is able to properly package a source file, they can properly prepare a PDF.

And there is a difference between being able to accept Affinity files versus encouraging people to download and use Affinity. The latter is akin to sending people to a competitor (or potential competitor in regions where Canva does not yet offer printing services).

Years ago, Wendy's offered Pepsi soft drinks. Shortly after Pepsi purchased KFC and after Pepsi-owned Taco Bell began running anti-burger ads, Wendy's switched to Coca-Cola. Burger King also later switched to Coca-Cola, partly due to seeing Pepsi as a competitor. Despite Pepsi selling off its food unit in the late 90s, Wendy's and Burger King continue to stick with Coca-Cola.

I think other printers will look at Canva who offers print services and think twice about recommending their "free" software to clients.

I am wondering what will happen now that every print shop can download Affinity for free and then ask their customers who use Affinity to send them a Package file. Yes there is the learning curve for the printers to get through but how long will it be before print shops have the knowledge to use Package files.

Canva offers printing services. Why would printers want their customers to download software from a competitor that will use that software to advertise printing services to their customers?

There's apparently another, albeit less impactful, Internet dependency in Affinity 3. From what I can tell, the "built in" (...right) help is all online. I can't find anything installed locally and the help topics have Internet URLs. So if you're offline and need help, you're most likely out of luck.

Too much software is like that these days. It's gotten to where I'm just mostly blind to the Help menu in apps.
