You could also create a saved selection channel via Pixel > Select Pixels > Save > As Saved Channel;
then deselect and paint wherever you like, and restore your selection whenever you wish.

I work on a Mac and followed your video step-by-step on my own computer;
it must be a Windows issue, as everything works fine on the Mac.
Unfortunately, I can't tell whether it's a bug or a malfunction with your PC,
but there are many people on the forum who use Windows and will surely be able to give you some good advice.

From your video, I gather that what you call "opaque" is actually the fill of the shape created with the Pen tool,
whereas the "transparent" one is the shape with no fill. -

You can simply open two documents in the same instance of Affinity
and switch between them by clicking the name in the bar or using View > View Mode.So, if you have two monitors, you can place each document on a separate monitor.

I am trying to make a tessellation using a grid of rectangles, snapped together, although the tessellation itself is composed of white and yellow triangles rather than rectangles. Each triangle spans across two rectangles. The problem I am having is that, if there is a dark background, where the two rectangles join, a dark line is visible, even though the two rectangles have been snapped together and therefore there should be nothing in between them. Sometimes the line disappears when I zoom right in, but appears when I zoom out. The behaviour is a bit inconsistent.
I've tried resizing the rectangles to whole numbers of pixels. I've tried increasing the resolution of the design in AF Photo. Nothing seems to work.
How can I get rid of these lines/gaps?
The way you've put it, you're saying everything and nothing at the same time—we don't know how you created these triangles;
do they have a stroke?
are they vectors, or have they been converted to curves?
a screenshot of the situation, including the Layers panel, would be helpful;
are you working on Mac or Windows?
Basically, give us as much information as possible so we don't have to guess (it's too hot for that)... -
2. the new ‘Insert Caption’ feature a.) produces incorrect numbering and b.) cannot be used in conjunction with cross-references. As nobody seems to be familiar with Affinity in this area, the solution is to go back to Affinity Publisher. There, the automatic numbering and cross-reference features do work.
I also give my contribution: on Imac with Os Monterey the caption works well both as numbering and as cross-references.

Just added a panel called "Arrange and Transform", and added to the toolbar all the related to this, but it run out of space to fit them. Is possible to make another toolbar or to have multiple rows in the toolbar?

When I open a .jpeg file in Affinity Studio, there's a checkerboard pattern offset to one side, and I can't work out why or how to get rid of it.
What's going on?
A full-screen screenshot with layers and the properties bar visible would be helpful.
