How is that supposed to work?
There is software that does that. The old HTTrack website copier does it.

Hello, I'm working with some geometric shapes, and I'd like them to have a label with their horizontal and vertical dimensions. Is it possible to add a label with a field that automatically updates when the shape changes size? Furthermore, would it be possible to use that field with a user-defined scale?
Hello marce ,
I am sorry to say this is not possible. There is a measure tool but it is not possible to turn the measurements into static vector elements.
d.
How is it for you? Have you noticed a similar change with your installations?
I haven't. But the number of installed fonts can have an impact on the startup time. Did you by any chance add/install a big amount of fonts?
d.
It looks like this...
This looks great and special at the same time. And it looks like a l o t of work! I wish you can sort out the problems.

Actually, what has changed is the default setting: with both versions, there is a check box in Preferences > Auto-correct that lets you use the Tab key either to insert a tabulation or to automatically change the indent level.
Thank you Oufti ,
that is an interesting hint. Since I never use auto-correct I was not aware of this setting. I can confirm that it works as expected once the option is turned on.

Hello PastaShock ,
I just did a quick try in Affinity Studio and Affinity Publisher V2. I followed the video's example at about 5 minutes.
I can confirm that there is a different behaviour between AS and APub 2. In APub 2 hitting the TAB key changes the list level. In AS it does not.
I think this is worth a feedback via the in app help (top right).

I hadn't thought about MS Word so I'll give that a test, but I don't hold out much hope for that either, given that it's not even a DTP app.
The quality of import using MS Word may very much depend on the structure of the document. I was thinking of this way because MS Publisher and MS Word are by the same manufacturer and I could imagine that export to this format is somehow usable.
On the other side MS Word (= .docx) import has been available for some time now in APub.
It certainly is worth a try ![]()

Is there a way to make .25 for one digit and .35 two digits default?
Hello MisterK ,
tab stops are part of the definition of a text style. So you could create a special style with the respective numbers and use this as a 'default'.
But I am not aware of a text style that changes tab stops in dependency of the number of letters (or numbers in this case).

Is there a good way to get Microsoft Publisher files into Affinity?
Hello DataMeister ,
if you mean 'good way' in terms of native import then the answer is no.
Affinity Publisher can import PDF files in a way that they are editable. I would try this route first.
Another option could be - but I am not sure how well that may work - to export to MS Word format and import into APub.

Is there some way to get this table back? I really don't want to recreate it again if I can avoid it.
It is possible to set the entire table's transparency to zero. You would do this with the opacity slider in the layers panel. Or by hitting '00' when the table is selected. Hitting '1' reduces the transparency to 10% which makes it also almost invisible.
You could check this by selecting menu 'View > Mode > Wireframe'. This should show the table even if it's transparency is set to zero.
Good luck.
d.
so that I can digitally paint in those shapes with a custom brush.
Hello Kornalantis ,
sometimes it can happen that one (me included) accidentially hit the '0' (zero) key. This turns the brush opacity to zero, in other words it is completely transparent. This may look like nothing happens.
So I recommend to check the opacity slider on the context bar.

For those who missed the subtlety and feel personally offended, I am more than happy to correct and specify my statement:
I appreciate that. Thank you. And, please, do not hesitate to participate in this forum.

We all know
Please do not speak for me. You may perhaps know or more likely think for yourself. But you do not know what I think or know ![]()
Quotethat Serif ... hava always been and still are a complete fail when it comes to customer communication.
Calling it a 'complete fail' is not true. There was a lot of communication by Serif employees in the old and now closed forum.
I agree that Serif has a certain communication policy that does not provide information about internal strategies or development. I cannot comment about Canva because I have limited experiences with this company so far.
With all due respect,
d.
Just keep in mind that this is not an official method, and anyone who tries it does so at their own risk.
Hello Sinudes and welcome to the forum.
Many thanks for your contribution. As for now (after the closure of the official Affintiy forums) Affintiy users are spread across several 'communication channels.' I think your effort to network and spread information is very valuable here.

Unfortunately colours change for other Windows programs too! I had to change it back.
I experienced the same but with a little trial and error I was able to find a colour that works with my Windows colour scheme and still highlights the layers properly.
Still, an OS independent setting would be better IMHO.

A solution to this problem was discussed on the Serif Affinity Forums ‘a few’ years ago:
https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/top…dComment-176345
I think this is a very flexible solution. Especially as you can keep some shapes preconfigured as assets and simply drag them onto your design.
I want to add two tipps:
Try to reduce the size of the rectangle a couple of pixels or milimeters. This adds a little 'white space' around the image which sometimes can be nice.

Are you sure that the "Assistant" isn't just rasterising the vector objects?
Yes I am sure. Carl123 gives additional information. The vector shape had a mesh gradient fill and even this stayed editable.
For a test I copied the layer and pasted it into Designer V2. The result was a rasterized TIF version of the mesh gradient. The glitch filter did not translate that well though.

"Container Layer" is only the new term for what was previously called "[Vector] Layer".
Agreed.
This is from the help:
Container Layer—creates an empty container layer above the currently selected layer or at the top of the layer stack if a layer is not selected. Container layers can store a mix of vector and raster content.
Group—creates an empty layer group if no layers are selected, or groups the selected layers together.
Creating a container layer never includes layers that were selected before creating the container layer. Creating a group does contain (group) selected layers in the layer panel.
If you select a container layer and then create a vector element it will be created inside the container layer.
If you select a group layer and then create a vector element it will be placed above the group. This can be changed with the option 'Insert inside selection' (from the Toolbar or menu 'Layer > Arrange > Insert' or keyboard shortcut SHIFT+i).
I admit the differences are small but can be usefull in certain workflows ![]()
