Augmentor Release Thread

  • Hello all,

I have released the first public version of Augmentor, an enhancement utility supporting all Affinity applications V1-V3. This initial beta offers easy tab moving without detachment, a highlight for the active document tab, and a larger Affinity V3 settings dialog. More features are in development and will release periodically. The beta is available for free from the project homepage:

  • So this is for Windows but not Macs?

Yes. My expertise and dev work is all PC-based, and the language used to write Augmentor (AHK) is Windows-only since it is built directly on the Windows API.

Sorry I can't offer an equivalent solution to all our Mac friends. If there is an Apple developer within the Affinity community who wants to try replicating Augmentor features for the Mac, I would be happy to advise them on the general techniques used.

  • On virustotal.com, four scanners show a detection, which by itself does not yet indicate a real threat. However, Microsoft Defender also raises an alert on my system. I had this once before with a keyboard driver: the developer contacted Microsoft, and after a review the software was added to the list of trusted applications.

Thanks for the notes. I'm actually preparing a dev log to discuss av false positives. Augmentor's functions rely on techniques such as process, window, and input monitoring, which understandably can be used by malware and thus deemed suspicious.

The short version is no, Augmentor is not malware. I have submitted false positive reports for my other projects to AV vendors in the past, with no success in changing scan results. I will attempt the same for Augmentor, but there is only so much time I'm willing to lose to that effort.

If you are not comfortable using the program, I fully respect that decision.

*Edit - The full post discussing the AV issue is now up here: https://itch.io/t/5784526/a-de…ivirus-warnings

Do you happen to know if that developer just used the online reporting method or other/additional means of getting Microsoft to clear the issue?

  • Augmentor 0.6.0 has been released:
[+] New feature: Sync scroll zoom with Navigator stops

Normal scrolling zoom with the mouse produces odd zoom factors like 63%, 111%, etc. This feature synchronizes scrolling zoom to the standard Navigator stops: 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, 150%, 200%, etc.

  • Augmentor 0.6.5 has been released:
[+] New feature: Instant vertical text

This features enables rapid creation of vertically-oriented text. Best used for single words or lines, when the more complex features of the Frame Text Tool are not needed.

  • Interesting new feature but why do you show it in Affinity Designer and not in Affinity 3?

Good question. There are three reasons. First, I've tried to vary Affinity apps/versions in video and screenshot illustrations to emphasize Augmentor's support for the entire Affinity line of products.

Second, for this demo video I actually started using V3. It hard crashed in the middle of recording, so I pivoted to Designer to complete the video.

Third, the vertical text feature seems most relevant to Designer/Vector use cases rather than Photo/Pixel or Publisher/Layout.

Thanks for the feedback. As a viewer, did the lack of V3 being used in the video cause any confusion, or mostly just curiosity at the app choice?

  • Confusion. I suggest that if you want to stress the compatibility with the various Affinity versions, show the respective program logo's on your video and use version 3 because that shows that your app is current.

That is a good idea. Thank you for the suggestion.
