Strange Behavior

  • I've been experiencing some unexpected behavior with Affinity Photo (pixel) v3, and I'm wondering if you can replicate this strange behavior or is it just me?
    I'll make it short:
    New document 2000 x 2000 px;
    pixel > New fill layer;
    apply a linear gradient from white to black (fig. 1);

    Document > Settings > Resize > Document, resize to 500 x 500 px.

    The result is shown in fig. 2.

    The document was resized correctly, but the gradient shrunk incorrectly.

    Does this happen to you too?

    Thanks for your help.

  • Can confirm there is a problem with scaling a gradient. The object seems to scale properly but the gradient is scaled by the same factor again.

  • I get the exact same results as you.

    To get it correctly you have to go back to the Fill tool and stretch the right side dark point back to the right.

    Certainly a bug. It does the same thing with a gradient fill on a shape.

    Well, if a gradient is applicable at all:
    When I add a Fill layer, it will remain transparent/invisible, no matter which color I choose.
    It will only accept color after I have added another object (anything, can be deleted afterwards).
    Yet another bug.
    Not present in v2.6.5.

    By the way, I was watching one of Dansky's Affinity videos yesterday and he appeared to be fighting the same bug as well.

    Edit:

    Argh, found the cause:
    Fill opacity seems to be 0 by default. Duh. Still a bug to me though.

    Edit 2:
    The above fixed by setting Fill layer/Fill tool defaults to an opaque color.

    Edit 3:
    So… my transparent fill layer issue outlined in this post is possibly not a bug, after all.
    I found the reason, which is sort of a "fight for dominance over tool defaults":
    Usually I prefer to set the default style for the shape tools to 1 pt black stroke and no fill. But the "no fill" default will then also apply to the Fill layer, as it's apparently technically sort of a vector object, too, only with "infinite" dimensions and no border. Same if I apply no fill to an existing vector object and then create a Fill layer, it will inherit Color Opacity: 0% (not layer opacity!).

    (This all just for the record.)
