The Affinity Publisher Workbook download links are broken

  • Hello to you all and a big thanks to the creator(s) of this forum.

I've posted the following message on the Affinity Discord server, but I think it got lost in the crowd of posts. I'm reposting it here with some slight changes, because the answers to my request could be useful for some owners of the Publisher Workbook. By the way, the workbooks are still very useful for V2 and V3 : the interface hasn't changed that much between the versions.

I wanted to download all the resources for the Affinity V1 workbooks because I just realized that I didn't have them anymore in my backups and I wanted to refresh my (very limited) skills.

The links given in the Designer and Photo workbooks still work, but they are broken for Publisher : the affin.co links send me to the affinity.studio page. That's what happen for example if you use the http://affin.co/PublisherCoreSkills link. I managed to get some of the Publisher resources by fiddling with the complete download address for Photo resources (using /publisher/ instead of /photo/), but the actual name of the file doesn't always match the name in the affin.co link.

For example, I can't get the SkillsOnShow resource because I can't guess the name of the zip file (SkillsOnShow.zip, Skillsonshow.zip, skills_on_show.zip, etc.). I doubt the affin.co links will be fixed at this point, but a workaround would be to know the name of the zip files of the Publisher workbook resources : if anyone who still has these zip files in store could share the complete name of the files (for example PublisherCoreSkills.zip), I would be very grateful !

EDIT : To download the Publisher resources, you need to modify the complete download address of a Photo resource : it doesn't work with a Designer address. I corrected the message to reflect that.

UPDATE 2025-11-03 : The Affinity support staff answered me very quickly and sent me a link to download the Publisher Workbook files. If the links given in your Publisher workbook don't work and if you can't find the Publisher Workbook resources in the download page of your Affinity account, the best solution for the time being would be to contact the official support. I used the support.serif.com page : https://support.serif.com/hc/en-us/reque…=10275207506831

  • Where did you post on Discord? No good in a chat - put it in Ask The Community.

I posted the message in the Ask The Community section, with a different title : https://discord.com/channels/14079…741552890413097
And I suppose my problem is very niche : those who have the Publisher workbook probably have downloaded the resources long ago and kept them in a safe place !

  • Did you tag the post with any keywords?

I'll have a look and see if I have anything on my HDD. I have the workbook, I think, so might have downloaded resources.

EDIT: It's the Affinity Photo workbook I have - sorry!

  • I do have the Affinity Publisher tag, but there is only a limited set of tags for the Ask the community posts and I couldn't find a way to create my own tags here, although there might be a keyboard command for it : Discord is still very mysterious to me !

Anyway, thanks for your help : it was much appreciated.

By the way, I forgot to write in my original message that there actually is a broken link in the Photo workbook : the Force Macro Pack No. 1 link.
You can find the file thanks to a kind soul on the Discord server.

I've sent a request on the Affinity support center concerning those broken links : I don't expect an answer since V1 isn't officially supported anymore, but you never know !

  • Hello komatös and thank you for your message,

As I wrote in my original post, I didn't have any problem downloading the the Photo and Designer workbooks resources, but the links to the Publisher Workbook resources are broken. For example, if you check the http://affin.co/PublisherCoreSkillslink in the forum.affinity.serif FAQ page, it brings to the affinity.studio page.

Your link to the FAQ page is still useful, because I forgot that the Publisher Workbook used a different downloading system, where the affin.co link is supposed to add the resources to your Serif account rather than let you download the files directly : that might explain why the links are broken now. Unfortunately, I don't see these resources on the download page of my Serif account.

It is possible to download at least some of the Publisher files by using the complete download link for a Affinity Photo resource and replacing /photo/ by /publisher/ and using the appropriate file name : for example PublisherCoreSkills.zip for PublisherCoreSkills. When the zip file name is the same as the affin.co name, that works fine : for example, it works with RBBrochure and SplotlightMag, and you just have to put the Fashionista resource in lowercase (fashionista.zip). The problem is that the zip filename isn't always the same as the affin.co name, and that's what's tripping me up with the SkillsOnShow resource for example.

Sorry, once again I only read half of it and understood a third.

But as a hunter-gatherer, I naturally absorbed everything Serif has (had) to offer. Including CoreSkills. I just had to dig it out of my slowly decaying neurons.

Since this forum only allows files with a maximum size of 10 MB per file, I have uploaded them to my Dropbox.

I can't blame you, because I am long-winded and not very gifted with words !

Thank you very much : you are very kind !

I actually already managed to download the PublisherCoreSkills and RBBrochure files thanks to the method explained in my previous post.

I would only need the name of the original zip files if you still have them in store : you don't have to actually send them to me.

I couldn't download the following resources because I didn't manage to guess their zip file name :
    SkillsOnShow (CV)
    AAIWBook (Alice in Wonderland book)
    AAIWCover (Alice in Wonderland cover)
    KBABrandGuide
    KBAStationary

I don't know the names of the zip files either. But they should be named like the links at the beginning of each chapter.

I only looked in the workbook at the first chapter and then decided to use the learning-by-doing method.

What I really liked was the unofficial Publisher Manual by MikeTO from the old Serif Affinity Forum.

That's not the case for the resources I've listed, but it's no biggie : I'll find a solution soon enough ! Thanks for all your help.

That is indeed an excellent manual and it helped me a lot with some PDF settings for print.

In addition to Mike Loader's excellent Expert Guide to Affinity Publisher, I found the Affinity Publisher WorkBook by Affinity invaluable in getting started with the App. I also ordered the Affinity Photo WorkBook. (I don't know if a workbook was also produced for Designer?) Nothing beats having a book in hand to learn how to start a new project using new software. Books Rule!
