New Features in Affinity Studio

  • I'm willing to open and play with it right now, but the issues I've encountered make me very reluctant to start using it for serious work until after the next patch.

I primarily use the Designer/Vector tools. My avatar is an illustration that I created in Affinity Designer 2, which I purchased a year ago. I will see if I can share a larger image here.

  • Not sure if it was already mentioned somewhere here in the forums, but the Move tool seems to have gotten some enhancements in Affinity v3. It now has three different selection modes: Default, Objects and Groups.

    • "Default" is, from what I've found during testing, the old behavior. It selects individual objects and groups.
    • "Objects" means that the Move tool ignores groups, i.e. it will always select single objects individually, even if they are part of a group.
    • "Groups" will only select groups and ignore individual objects.

  • … since v2
But there it was a dropdown menu.

Like this: The content cannot be displayed because you do not have authorisation to view this content.

For a little more about this see for example the Settings section of https://affinity.help/designer2/en-U…tools_move.html

In both V2 & V3 accidentally unchecking Auto-select can make it seem like the Move Tool can't select anything until you realize that you have to use the Layers panel for that.

It's a "gotcha" that has bit me many times. ;(

Yes, this was present in version 2. But, perhaps someone could answer me this: is there a way to set the Auto-Select behavior to something other than “Default”?

I always want to have auto-select set to “Objects” but it seems to always ‘default’ back to “Default.” I end up selecting the Group that an object is contained within rather than the object itself. (Is this just another complaint about non-sticky settings? I guess so…) Anyone have a solution or workaround?

If there is, I have no idea where to find it. For me it always reverts to Default.
